WAKF board clarifies

IMPHAL, August 20: The WAKF Board, Manipur today said in a press release that the WAKF board has come across some news items in the local dailies that a women organisation made a complaint to the Chief Minister of Manipur over the non release of funds for the minority widows of the year 2011-12.

In this regard, the WAKF board today clarified that the then late Minister Alaudin Khan, chair of the WAKF Board had circulated forms in 2010 and made the necessary selections by a duly constituted Selection Committee.  Further necessary notification of the list of the widows was made by Abdus Salam, CEO and the same CEO ordered to distribute amounts to the respective widows. The order copies were distributed to the Board members but the staff did not implement the order, it said.

The press release further that after Abdus Salam was transferred after the death of Minister Alaudin and there is now a new chairman and CEO.

The new office set up held its first meeting on April 24, 2013 and agreed not to make a change to the 2011-12 beneficiary lists and also to distribute forms for 2012-13 term. In this regard, all the schemes were announced except the widow scheme, it said.

There was no question of misusing the amounts by the chairman of the Board and its members. The board members do not hold responsibility for not announcing the scheme, it said.
