IMPHAL, August 4: A 28 year old housewife, a mother of four from Kwakta Tera Khongsangbi under Moirang police station was admitted to RIMS with 95 percent burns and is now battling for her life at the hospital.

The woman has been identified as Shakeela (28), wife of Md Fakuruddin alias Boipu, of Kwakta Terakhongangbi.

A relative of the women from her parental side speaking to this reporter informed that the two got married in 2006 and have four children.

She further said as per information collected from their neighbours, the incident happened on July 31 at around 11 pm.

The neighbours heard the couple having a heated argument, she said while adding that Fakuruddin had returned home around 10pm.

Soon after the heated argument, the neighbours heard Shakeela’s family members shouting ‘fire’ and rushed to the house and found Sakeela in flames, she said.

The neighbours put off the fire and brought Shakeela to RIMS for treatment with 95 percent burns.

Meanwhile, police maintained that she tried to commit suicide by burning herself using kerosene in her room after locking the door following a fight with her husband earlier that night.

However, her parental family members have reported the incident today at Morang police station charging her husband of trying to kill her by setting her on fire and refuted that she was traying to commit suicide.
