Adult Learners` Week concludes

KANGPOKPI, September 16: The week long literacy activities organized during the observances of Adult Literacy Week at Kangpokpi concluded with a glittering function at the Community Hall Kangpokpi today.

The Adult Literacy Week has been organized by MAEC SRC Nehu Shillong, Kangpokpi to commemorate the International Literacy Day.

Haokholien Guite, circle MDC Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council Kangpokpi attended the valedictory cum prizes distribution function as chief guest.

Apart from school principals, teaching staffs and students of different schools within Kangpokpi, senior and junior Preraks, VTs, learners, local women organizations, Youth unions, patrons, various civil body leaders as well as Town Committee members attended the function.

Resource person Lalgougin Misao delivered a welcome speech.

Prizes were distributed to first, second and third position holders of various literacy competitions organized during the week long literacy programs which included poetry, slogan, recitation, debate, essay and literacy race competition with a cash prizes of Rs.1,500/-, Rs.1,000/- and Rs.500/- respectively along with Certificates of Participation.

Neichullou Misao from Model Centre Kangpokpi was declared overall individual champion in the literacy competition. She begged first position in Poetry, Slogan and Recitation conpetition while second position in Debate competition respectively.

Addressing the congregate Haokholien Guite lauded SRC Nehu Shillong and Directorate of Adult Education, SLMA Imphal for launching Saakshar Bharat Mission in Kangpokpi Centre.

While appreciating Model Centre Kangpokpi for organizing literacy related activities and skill development programs for income generation of the functionaries under SRC Nehu Shillong, H.Guite further said that District Council is ever ready to extend any possible helps to attain total literacy.

“Public support and cooperation is the need of the hour for the success of Model Centre Kangpokpi in rendering total literacy in the areas”, noted Guite.

B Laltanpuia, Director SRC Nehu Shillong highlighted the aims and objectives as well as activities of Saakshar Bharat Mission while Gaijeipou, Addl Director, SLMA Imphal mentioned a list of proposals forwarded to the Centre for implementation in the district.
