IMPHAL, September 20: The Singjamei Phiyonpham Shop owners’ Association today staged a protest against the government’s decision to dismantle the shops located on both sides of the road approaching Singjamei bridge from Singjamei Bazar to accommodate the widening of the road. The agitating shopowners further demanded for alternate places for them to open shops before the widening of the road is taken up.
Speaking to media persons, Secretary of the shop owners’ body, W Herachandra said that all together 47 shops located in the Singjamei Bazar area will be affected by the proposed widening of the road.
He also said that they are not against the widening of the road for the convenience of the people and appealed to the state government to made arrangements for them before the widening of the road is taken up.
