Angered over AR team`s attempt to arrest man, mob sets AR vehicle on fire at Lamka

    IMPHAL, Sept 21:  An irate mob set on fire a Maruti Gypsy vehicle of the Assam Rifles today.  The incident occurred at around 8 pm. Reports mentioned that a group of 46th AR personnel tried to arrest a person near the main street of Bungmuol, Lamka at the said timing.

    Sources alleged that the people of the locality were against the action of the AR personnel who in the recent past are suspected to be involved in an alleged rape incident.

    The public of the area sounded an alarm bell and a mob gathered, by which time the AR personnel had fled from the spot and later the vehicle of the AR was ransacked and set on fire.

    After the arson, AR reinforcements arrived and fired indiscriminately at the site, however there were no reports of any causality.

    The AR camp is located presently at Headquarter Veng.
