IMPHAL, September 14: The bodies of the nine labourers of Kolkata based Simplex Company killed when an IED was triggered inside their makeshift shanty on the concrete slabs over the Naga Nullah, Khoyathong have been sent back to their families today.
Post mortem of the dead bodies were earlier conducted at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
Meanwhile, the State Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh who is presently on his way to China has strongly condemned the incident terming it an “inhuman and cowardly act”.
A statement from the Secretary to the Chief Minister, N Ashok Kumar said, “The government has viewed this attack on the migrant workers very seriously.”
“Those responsible for this criminal action will not be spared and taken to task as per the law of the land at the earliest.”
Announcing ex-gratia for all the victims both dead and injured, the statement said, “The government also announces Rs four lakhs as ex-gratia to the next of the kin of the deceased persons and financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per person for grievous injury and Rs 10,000 per person for simple injury in the incident as per the norms.”
“The government of Manipur shares the grief and pain of the bereaved family members,”it added.
Meanwhile, the nine labourers killed in the blast have been identified as Asmad Ali, son of Anjo Ali of Kamrup; Arafat Ali, son of Ahamdullah of Kamrup; Abjal Haque, son of Md Melihuddin of Kamrup; Md Tajuddin Ali, son of Jahir Ali of Kamrup; Sabul Haque, son Akbar Ali of Goalpara; Mulfiz Ali, son of Md Khadan Ali of Golpara, Zahir Hussain, son of Alkesh Ali of Kampura; Mubarak Ali of Golapara and Motibur Ali, son of Tasan Ali of Kamrup. All the labourers belong to Jawkata District in Assam under Nagarbera Police Station.
Among the 12 injured individuals, five are undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital and six are undergoing treatment at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences at present.
