IMPHAL, September 9: A state cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh was convened today around 3 pm at the CM’s secretariat.
The cabinet resolved to widen strategic roads within Imphal with the objective to ease traffic congestion in Imphal city.
Sources said the roads to be widened include the Chingamakha Heirangoithong road along the NH-2 (formerly known 39), Khagempalli Naoremthong road (from Khagem palli to Naoremthong), Uripok Khwairak Selungba road.
The objective of widening these roads, which will serve as ring roads is to divert the congested traffic volume within Imphal, added a source.
All these roads will be widen upto 20 to 25 metres, informed the source. For the said purpose, the government during today’s meet has agreed upon to start land acquisition and subsequent payment of compensation, the source informed.
Meanwhile, the cabinet had also agreed to create one post of Additional Director in the Directorate of Information and Public Relations office. Construction of VVIP guest house at Imphal, construction of institution building of performing arts at Gurgaon, Haryana and review of progress of census verification in three sub-divisions of Senapati district were other agendas deliberately discussed during today’s cabinet meeting.
