    IMPHAL, September 15: The Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), observed its 7th Foundation today at the Manipur Press Club, Majorkhul.

    The foundation day was attended by Prof MC Arun, Department of Anthropolgy, Manipur University as the chief guest while Ningthoujam Doren, president (in charge) CADA as function president and Yumnam Nabachandra, president United Committee Manipur (UCM), as guest of honour.

    The main highlight of the day was a state level open debate competition under the topic “Manipur da nisa thingba mapung phana ngamdribasi Manipur Government ki asoibani”.

    Addressing the function, MC Arun said that the civil society organizations have been taking over the duty of the government to check the trafficking of drugs in the state.

    He said a rapid increase in the number of drug users have been witnessed in the state since 1950’s.

    Medicines which are meant to be life saving have been wrongly abused by the several individuals, he said.

    CADA president in charge, N Doren said the drug menace in the state has outclassed the size of the state and added drug abuse is very high in the state.

    He further expressed on the need to check the youths who could be easily led into drug abuse.
