LAMKA, September 14: The JAC formed against the eviction of land owners from Kangvai to CCpur police station  stretch along NH-150, today  held its third meeting at Radakrishna Foundation School, Tuibuang, CCpur.

The meeting was attended by about 2000 residents who are likely to be affected by the road widening and resolved to block the proposed road extension of the highway totally.

M Mangte, Secretary of the JAC said the people are angry with the state government order issued on March 20, 2012, issued by the Commissioner (Revenue) S Sunderlal Singh, which devalued the land value at Rs 20 per sq feet in CCpur (town area) while the rate is as high as Rs 390 per sq feet in Thoubal, Rs 200 in Senapati Rs 300 in Ukhrul, not to mention the rate of Rs 1200 per sq feet in Imphal area.

Citing that as CCPur is considered the second town of the state, he said the value stated is undervalued.

Others condemned the proposed widening of road complaining that the area falls only in Saikot constituency.

Chairman Chungkhosei questioned “What is the logic in widening 50 feet on either side of the road at the NH 150 when the Govt cannot properly maintained the existing 25 feet”, and continued that even if the govt want to redress traffic congestion they had the easy option of making a ring road around the Ccpur town which is the norm in every city or major town.

JAC member Stanley K Touthang said that even if the government started the work they will defend their land to the extent of going to jail as the issue involve around land that they inherited from their fore fathers.
