IMPHAL, September 13: Concerned over the shortage of teachers in most of the schools which is affecting functioning of schools in the district, participants of the People’s Convention on RTE invoked the intervention of three people’s representatives of the District in improving the education system in the district, said a press statement by the Convenor of UDACR.
The convention was graced by Pradip Chandren, Assistant Commissioner of Ukhrul as the Chief Guest and Grace Luikham, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, ADC, Ukhrul as the Guest of Honour in the inaugural function.
During the technical sessions, issue on the shortage of teachers, lack of subject teachers particularly for Hindi, frequent transfer of teachers under UADC which affects proper conduct of classes, lack of training facilities for teachers, shortage of teachers, appointment of teachers in primary schools who do not know the mother tongue of the students which rendering the teaching meaningless were discussed, it said.
Other issues which need intervention of MLAs and higher authority were untimely supply of text books, non-supply of writing materials, supply of Manipuri text books in Roman letter, lack of infrastructure facilities in schools such as school building, toilet for both girls and boys, kitchen shed, safe drinking water facility etc., it continued.
Members present in the convention appealed the three MLAs of the district to intervene and take prompt action for the interest of the children who are the future of the society, it further added.
