IMPHAL, September 18: The Manipur State, Communist Party of India has today demanded the state government to convey an all political party meeting, on the Indo-Myanmar border fencing issue, at the earliest.

The party’s secretary Dr M Nara, during a press conference held at the party’s office said a team of the party volunteers comprising of about 30 members had recently visited the Tamil Sangam Temple, Muslim Basti and Holenphai along the disputed border fencing.

Demanding the immediate halt of all fencing work, he demanded the inclusion of an eminent personality of the state who has proper knowledge on the issue to join the proposed Joint Working Group to monitor the border fencing works.

He said the proposal for the formation of the Joint Working Group was put up by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Speaking at the press conference, L Sotinkumar said that pillar number 76 which was erected by Indian government was missing and in its place, pillar number 23 was found erected by the Myanmar authorities.

The villagers of Holenphai have reported that two to three days back, the Myanmar army personnel erected their flag without any acknowledgment of the villagers, he claimed.

He further alleged that the same day, the Myanmar army came up and erected a temporary fencing on the disputed areas.
