Jiri girl reaches Arunachal Pradesh amidst warm reception

NIRJULI (Arunachal Pradesh), September 13: Sougaijam Bidyalakshmi, who is on cycling tour throughout the Northeast to spread the message of stopping violence against women, reached Nirjuli in Arunachal Pradesh today.

Mentioned may be made that the Social Welfare minister of Manipur, Akoijam Mirabai Devi flagged off the tour from Imphal on August 21, 2013 from Imphal.

The girl had already covered Moreh, Bishnupur in Manipur; Kohima, Dimapur in Nagaland and Jorhat, Dribugarh and Tezpur in Assam before reaching Arunachal Pradesh.

A simple reception ceremony was organised by the students of NERIST.

Speaking on the occasion, BC Sharma, convenor, joint co-ordination committee elaborately discussed about the experience of the tour.

He also highlighted on the importance of the message that is conveyed by the young girl.

“ A society can progress when both men and women are equally treated, said Aheibam Dinamani Singh, Asst. Prof., NERIST.

Fighting against the rising crime against women and children is the responsibility of all. Moreover, the mindsets of women need to be changed to fight back. We all should take the message brought by the young activist and convert it into action,” the Asst. Prof., NERISTsaid .

The young activist interacted with the students of NERIST. She also spoke about the raising crime against women and children. “If I am able to talk to 100 persons, I assume that 100 crimes will be reduced,” said Bidyalakshmi.

Students of NERIST also donated amount for her noble cause.
