Lairenkabi Kadangban Gram Panchayat discusses conditions for issue of BPL card

    IMPHAL, September 9: A one day ‘Gram Sabha’ to discuss the issue of Below Poverty Line (BPL) card and how the cards should be given to the deserving persons was held at Lairenkabi Dramatic Union Hall today. The event was organized by the Lairenkabi Kadangban Gram Panchayat.

    The Gram Sabha meeting was attended by various members inclusive of 220 persons residing within Mayang Langjing Zilla Parishad. Speaking at the occasion, Pradhan of Lairenkabi-Kadangban Gram Panchayat, N Boby said that the BPL cards should be tendered to those persons, whose annual income is below Rs 25,985.

    He further mentioned that a scrutiny should be held to observe whether the cards are given to the deserving families, and this was in adherence to the Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East notification dated August 22.

    He added that the local populace should also check whether the BPL cards have been distributed to deserving families and a responsibility from the locals in needed to bring about  transparency in this matter, he said. Flagship programs of the Centre meant for holistic development of the village was discussed at length today. It may be mentioned that this is the second Gram Sabha sitting held at the said area.
