Man accused of rape attempt remanded to judicial custody

    IMPHAL, September 11: A man alleged to have attempted to rape a 15 year old minor girl on September 5 around 7 am, has been remanded to judicial custody for further trial, according to reports.

    The accused person arrested by the police for the rape attempt has been identified as Khwairakpam Shyam Singh (26), son of Kh Tomba Singh of Sekmai Nongthonband Leikai under Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West District.

    Kh Shyam had allegedly tried to rape the girl while she was engaged in agricultural activities at a field at Nongthonband.

    Following the incident, the girl’s mother filed a report with the Sekmai Police Station on the same day after which, the police registered a case under FIR No 106 (9) 2013 SEK PS U/S 376/511/354 IPC.

    Later, the accused person was arrested by some locals and handed over to the police. He was produced before the court and further remanded to judicial custody, the reports stated.
