IMPHAL, September 24: The 18th Manipur University inter-college Literary Meet-2013 opened today at the Centenary Hall, Manipur University under the theme “Nationalism and Patriotism” organised by the Organising Committee Manipur University.
The first day of the meet saw a recitation competition on the theme of the meet with retd Session Judge C Upendra as the chief guest, Addl Director, Higher and Technical Education (U) RK Yaiskul as guest of honour and Dean, Student’s Welfare Manipur University Prof RK Hemakumar acted as the president of the function.
The meet was participated by students from various schools, colleges and the University. Voicing concern over the various demands for separation from the state, the Retd Judge viewed that people should first think of uniting together for development.
He further elaborated on the need for the people to be united.
Participation of the students in such literary meets are vital, as they are the future pillar of the society.
He said participation in such meets will only help the students understand what is happening around the world. Students who discard politics during their student life can only bring peace and the feeling of nationalism and patriotism, he continued.
It is very much important for the students to fully understand the idea of nationalism and patriotism, said
RK Yaiskul who also spoke at the Meet said today’s students are advanced in preparing for any kind of presentation.
Elaborating on their roles in the society, he further expressed that teachers should also be able to properly guide them in whatever field the students chose, whether it is sports, debating, painting or any other field.
The participants should interact with his or her competitors in order to understand and know each other and said they are the future of the state and should aim to bring integrity amongst themselves.
