IMPHAL, September 14: The 12 hour long general strike imposed by the Maoist Community Party, Manipur starting from 5 am and continuing till 5 pm today against the 42nd Foundation Day of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) affected normal life in the state.

Due to the strike, shops in and around Kwairamband Keithel remained with their shutters down.

Educational institutes remained closed and both the Inter-District and Inter- State passenger services stayed off the road.

Movement of passers-by and vehicles were also minimal on most of the roads in Imphal.

Cinema shows and other entertainment programs were also halted during the purview of the bandh.

However, no untoward incident was reported during the general strike. A large number of security personnel were seen deployed in and around RIMS campus ahead of its foundation day to quell any unwanted incident.

Even as the strike considerably affected the valley districts, it failed to create any impact in the five hill districts.
