Mob bars SF team from arresting father-son for illegal possession of fire-arms

IMPHAL, September 12: A brief tussle between a mob and a combined team of security forces broke out this morning at Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi, under Thoubal district.

Police reportedly resorted to firing of tear gas shells to disperse a mob that started pelting stones at the combined security forces.

However, no casualty was reported during the tussle.

Sources said that the tussle was a fall out of a reported attempt by the mob to foil an attempt to arrest a father and son duo at the area. The duo have been identified as Md Haji Nasle and his son, Md Sikendar of Lilong Haoreibi Turel Ahanbi.

Police sources said that on receiving report of illegal possession of firearms by the father and son duo, who reportedly have connections with militant groups, a combined team comprising of 40 AR Lilong post and Thoubal district police commandos rushed to the area to arrest the father-son duo.

The attempt to arrest the two was foiled by the locals of the area who started pelting stones against the combined forces.

Despite the efforts of the combined team to disperse the mob by firing tear gas shells, they were outnumbered and subsequently had to retreate from the hostile area, further informed the police.

A case against the father and son duo was reportedly lodged at the concerned police station.
