Parliamentary team in state to assess ongoing railway work

IMPHAL, September 29: A 12 member team of the Committee on Estimate, Lok Sabha led by its Chairman Francisco Sardinah arrived today in the state capital on a two day visit to inspect works taken up by the North Eastern Frontier Railways and development of textiles in the state.

The team including Lok Sabha MP from the state, Thokchom Meinya arrived at the Imphal airport at 1:30 pm in an Air India flight from Aizwal and was received by the state Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and DGP MK Das.

Speaking to the media persons on arrival, Francisco Sardinah disclosed that they have come to the state to monitor how the railways can help and function in the state. The team will also inspect the administration of various departments of the state, he said.  

During their two days stay in Manipur, the team is scheduled to look after the planning and implementation of the Railway project in the state with a special reference to the Jiri Tupul Railway line taken up by the Northeast Frontier Railways and deployment of the textile industry in the state.

The Lok Sabha Committee on Estimate will convene a meeting tomorrow at Classic Hotel in the morning around 10 am. Development Commissioner (Handloom) Government of India, Ministry of Textile Balvinder Kumar is also likely to attend the meeting and is likely to be arriving tomorrow morning.
