JIRIBAM, September 10: Even as most of the teachers of Jiribam Govt Higher Secondary School were seen in attendance when the Addl Director, Education Department (S) paid an inspection visit at the school last month, the school is now reeling under acute shortage of teachers as many teachers have failed to attend the school after the Addl Director`s inspection of the school.

The school is today left with several subjects without teachers.

According to a highly placed official source, Ch Shomita Devi (Drawing & Engineering) one of the four teachers banned by four student unions based in Jiribam from entering their respective schools was also present at the time when the Addl Director had inspected the school.

However, she has once again failed to turn up.

The same situation goes as well for other teachers, the source informed.

Several teachers namely A Angamba (Drawing & Engineering), Y Ajitkumar (Commerce), K Zinitha Devi (English), Th Inaobi Devi (Education), Th Gagarin Singh (Physics), Ch Direndra Singh (Zoology), L Rupachandra (Botany), MK Mishra (Hindi), Kh Indikumar Singh (Political Science) and RK Gambhirjit Singh (Chemistry) have been absent so far on medical and official grounds after taking permission from the school Principal.

Due to their absence, the school is unable to teach its students properly.

Subjects which have remained untught due to the absence of the teachers are Drawing & Engineering, Commerce, Hindi, Chemistry and Physics. The transfer order of N Rajen, Geography teacher of the school who was absent most of the time has been questioned more so since it has come about when the school is facing an acute shortage of teachers.

It may be mentioned that Addl Director (Valley) Education (S) Ranjan Yumnam had inspected several schools in Jiribam sub-division on August 22 last to inspect lack of necessary infrastructure in the schools and non-performing teachers.

When the Addl Director visited the Jiribam Govt Higher Secondary School, the Jiribam Govt Higher Secondary School Students’ Union handed over a statement to the officer highlighting a slew of problems being faced by the school.

Taking serious note over the unwarranted development in the school, the Jiribam units of four student unions namely AMSU District Committee, MSF Special Branch, DESAM Local Council and KSA Jiribam Unit during a press meet held at the office of AMSU District Committee on August 8 last had given a deadline of August 30 for taking up strict action against the teachers who have been transferred from Jiribam on utilisation process and those teachers who have not attended to their respective schools regularly.

The AMSU District Committee, MSF Special Branch, DESAM local branch, KSA Jiribam Unit, Jiribam Hr Sec Students’ Union along with teachers of Jiribam Govt Higher Sec School in its meeting held at the conference hall of the school had discussed at length on the present condition of the school and other developmental measures which need to be initiated.

The student unions along with the Principal of the school had pledged that strict action would be taken up against those teachers who are not willing to attend the school on a regular basis.
