Pythons suspected to be killed and eaten up at Jiribam

    JIRIBAM, September 13: In the absence of strong measures to protect wild life under Jiribam sub-division in Imphal East District, it is reported that two pythons captured by some persons yesterday with one weighing around 50 kilo may have been eaten and the other one, remaining traceless.

    According to reports, a hunting team led by one Kiron Suchein came across a Python (locally known as ‘’Ulufara), around 20 feet long and approximately 50 kg in weight while they were hunting at Aponpunji, a jungle area. The Python was shot and killed following which, it was reportedly eaten.

    Meanwhile, on the same day around 7.30 pm, another Python weighing around 30 kilo and eight feet in lenght was captured by one Ch Priyokumar Singh near his house at Babupura in Jiribam.

    It was decided that the captured Python be handed over to Zoo and Forest Dept officials, but Priyokumar was bitten by the python in his hand and he was hospitalised. After the incident, some people took away the python saying that it would be released at a safer place. Later, when contacted they informed that the Python managed to escape from their hands.
