RIMS to observe its 42nd foundation day

IMPHAL, September 12: RIMS Director S Sekharjit while speaking to media persons at his office chambers today has said the 42nd Foundation Day of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences on September 14 will be attended by Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma who did his MBBS degree from the Institute as chief guest and MP from the Inner constituency of Manipur Dr Th Meinya.
He continued that RIMS was established in the year September 14, 1972 under the name RMC. “Till now, the institute has produced 2,838 doctors, 1057 post graduate students,” he said.
The institute has 1,800 staffs and 250 teaching doctors and the Institute has been enrolling 100 MBBS students and 147 Post Graduate students from country each academic session, he continued.
Dr S Sekharjit also mentioned that Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) have been installed in some areas and there are plans to install such CCTVs in the entire campus of the Institute to prevent unwanted incidents.
MEEU shows solidarity to MI employees strike
IMPHAL, Sept 12: The Manipur Electricity Employees’ Union, Keishampat has today in a press release expressed solidarity to the ongoing strike of the work charged and muster roll employees of the Minor Irrigation Department since the last 10 days who have been demanding the release of their wages for the last nine months.
The press release further expressed displeasure over the government’s silence while adding that the lack of payment of wages for nine months is an unbearable burden to the families of the work charged and muster roll employees.
General Strike
IMPHAL, September 12: The Maoist Communist Party has called a state wide general strike on September 14. The 12 hour general strike will commence from 5 am on the RIMS foundation day . According to a press release issued by Nonglen Meitei , `publicity and propaganda secretary` of the outfit, the strike is being called due to various loopholes in the management of RIMS and the doctors who are not attending to their duties and has appealed to the general public to support the strike.
