IMPHAL, September 18: Armed Forces Special Powers’ Act , crusader Irom chanu Shamila today condemned the recent powerful bomb blast at Khoyathong which killed nine migrant construction workers.
Speaking to reporters after her routine appearance before the Judicial Magistrate First Class, JMIC, Imphal East court today, the Iron Lady of Manipur declared the violent act as barbaric and called it a terrorist act.
She said, she had recently read in some newspapers that a student of the state has decided to carve her statue in an act of solidarity to her struggle against the draconian AFSPA and appealed against any such endeavour.
Observing a black day against the imposition of the AFSPA in the state will not bring any positive effect, instead people should be united against the act and demand its repeal unitedly, she observed.
Further condemning the frequent threats upon the media houses by some outfits, she appealed to all not to repeat such threats against the media which is also regarded as the fourth pillar of democracy.
She said the media should be allowed to function freely and not dictate any threats against them.
Meanwhile, Sharmila was again remanded to judicial custody for another 15 days.
