KANGPOKPI, September 17: In an unfortunate incident yesterday here at the Manipur Theological College, the only college sponsored by Baptist Churches under the Manipur Baptist Convention,  students took an extreme step and resorted to destroying some of the college furniture including the college window glasses and others to lodge their dissatisfaction over the Internal Assessment Mark in the recently declared 4th Year 1st Semester Examination on 22nd August 2013 and the decision of Manipur Theological College Board as well as the College Council besides the concerned authority’s failure to address the grievances of the students thereby ignoring to take appropriate action against the guilty teacher.

Around 40/50 students of Manipur Theological College located some 5 Km away from Kangpokpi at Mission Campus under Kangpokpi Ward No.10 destroyed some of the college furniture demanding the authorities to address their grievances yesterday at around 3 pm.

Immediately after the incident, Kangpokpi police personnel led by its OC L Vaiphei reached the spot and controlled the situated.

Speaking to media persons at the college campus, the Students’ Union Manipur Theological College, president Phamtuhring said that the concerned authority including the MTC Board and the College Council compelled the students to take such an extreme agitation .

Narrating the reasons behind the unfortunate incident, Phamtuhring lamented that one Wungnaowung Zimik, a lecturer of the College gave 15 marks each equally to all the 18 aspiring candidate in the recently declared 4th Year 1st Semester Examination in his two subjects namely Homiletics and Liturgy & Music in the Internal Assessment Mark which is just 1 mark below the Pass Mark.

In this regard, the Students’ Union immediately approached the College Principal and put forward the matter for clarification and demanded the authorities to expel the lecturer, added Phamtuhring.

He continued that the College Council without much concerning the student grievances handover the matter to the Manipur Theological Board saying that they have no rights to expelled him and accordingly the Students’ Union informed the matter to the MTC Board and demand immediate action.

A joint meeting had been convened with MTC Board members comprising of its chairperson Apila, MBC gen secy. Konghar and MBC youth secy Mathotmi, the College Council and the Students’ Union at the College but without positive solution pointed out  Phamtuhring while adding the matter got serious after the second joint meeting where the MTC Board favouring the unqualified teacher merely asked the student to forgive him and firmly told the Student body that they cannot expell the particular teacher.

Expressing that W Zimik did not even know the pass mark in the internal assessment, MTC Students’ Union gen secy Thensei Touthang pointed that the Synod has sent intimation to the college council to check the activities of the teacher several times.

The Students’ Union MTC Gen secy Thensei Touthang informed that it made appeals to all association secretaries under MBC to take necessary step to unfold the truth and bring Justice against the decision makers of the MTC Board but unfortunately till now there were no positive action initiated.

He also informed to all concerned responsible authority and every individual particularly the Church Association under MBC that out of 52 students of MTC, 42 are going on Mass Transfer from the College stating that “We cannot and we don’t want to waste out time here anymore learning nothing from such unqualified teacher who endanger our future career”.

On the other hand, the Manipur Theological College Council said that they are initiating every positive step to bring an amicable solution.
