Tiddim road accident claims two lives, another seriously injured

LAMKA, September 13: Two motor cycle borne persons died, one on the spot, while two others in a car were left hospitalised after the two vehicles collided around 11am along the Tiddim Road near Koite village Cemetery at CCpur today.  

A RX 100 motor cycle bearing registration no MN 02 2317 and a Hyundai i20 car collided leading to the immediate death of the driver of the motor cycle identified as K Thangkhenkhup (55), h/o Niangmanching and a resident of Gouchinkhup Veng New Lamka.

The pillion rider identified as D Chiinkhanthang, husband of Thongniang of Dorcas Road New Lamka succumbed at the CCpur District Hospital.   

The severity of the collision was such that the i20 car lay upside down, while the pillion rider of the motor cycle was thrown upwards and left hanging on a nearby tree according to witnesses.

The handle bar and wheel of the motor cycle was smashed into the fuel tank by the impact of the collision.

The driver of the car and passenger were helped by the air bag fitted in their car. The driver, identified as Saratchandra (23), s/o Guneswar of Yumnam Huidrom, Imphal West suffered a fractured spinal cord while the passenger identified as Surjalata (19), daughter of Yamini Kanta of Langthabal Puranakhong suffered minor injuries.

Both were admitted to the CCpur District Hospital.

The car was coming towards CCpur from the Imphal side, while the motor cycle was coming from the opposite side.

The two motor cycle were incidentally going to the funeral of a relative at Saikul village which is about 10 km from Lamka.

People who know the place said the site of the accident is accident prone.

Later in the evening, the family members of the two parties involved met at the police station but the outcome of the meeting is unclear. The police have filed an FIR No 80(9)2013 CCP PS U/S 279/427/338/304-A IPC with regard to the accident today.
