“To make a new and better society, women needs to be educated”

KANGPOKPI, Sept 21: A mass rally cum public meeting on Violence against Women and Children was jointly organized by the Rural Youth Development Centre and Women & Child Welfare Association, Kangpokpi here today at the Vocational Training Centre.

The rally cum meeting was sponsored by the United NGOs Mission.

Local MDC Haokholien Guite attended the occasion as the chief guest while secretary WAD M Sobita and Dr Priyadarshini Gangte attended the program as resource persons.

The mass rally was flagged off by Chonkam Kipgen, chairman Kangpokpi Town Committee at VTC Kangpokpi near Inspection Bungalow Kangpokpi.

The rally dominated mostly by students proceeded towards IT Road and took the main road, the NH-2 and back to the VTC where a public meeting was convened.

Members of the Kangpokpi Town Committee, Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization, NWU, Nepali Mothers` Association, Kalapahar and others civil body also attended the public meeting.

“To make a new and better society, women needs to be educated”, said Dr Priyadarshini Gangte while adding that a woman’s attitude should be respectable.

She also encouraged the women congregate to be responsible persons in their families, society and the nation.

“There is no security for women who are the pillars of the nation”, noted M Sobita, adding that security in the state seems only for the Government and not for the general public particularly when it comes to women.

She pointed out that 22 rape cases has been officially reported till August this year alone in the state. There are many such cases as well as other crimes against women and children which go unreported, she claimed.

She also shared information with the students who took part in the rally and the meeting on how to avoid violence and crimes against women and children.
