Tobacco items worth Rs 76 lakhs burnt

    THOUBAL, September 21: Tobacco items banned under the Food Safety and Standard Act were burnt at Moijing in Thoubal district. The burnt tobacco items costing Rs 76 lakhs were confiscated on May 13 last of this year by the Pallel Police.

    The burning of the tobacco items was executed following an order of the additional district Majistrate cum Adjudicating Officer of Food Safety and Standard Act on September 20, 2013.

    The registration number of the two trucks which carried the tobacco items are MN 02A 5102 and MN 07T 0036. The tobacco items which seized along with the two trucks are 200 cartoons of Parijat Jarda, 80 cartoons of the same brand but of a different style, 15 cartoon of Baba Jarda, 350 cartoon of Signal Jarda etc. The two trucks were released on the payment of Rs 20,000 as security bond.
