BISHNUPUR, September 25: Tuitions and coaching have become a new fashion, instead of studying and learning well for striving knowledge, said a school Headmaster of a govt high school on conditions of anonymity.

In the past, tuition/coaching were a private consultation of a particular teacher who could make the subject matter easier and enjoyable to the students/learners.

Such tuitions or coaching were also confined to few tough subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English, he said.

It has now become a luxurious fashion to do tuition of all subjects including MIL (Manipuri) and also History.

Students or rather the parent have to fork out over Rs 3500 to 7000 per subject until the completion of the particular subject syllabus.

Such trend of tuition has become a culture of the present generation. In doing so, the poor parents are becoming poorer in their efforts to follow the present trend and at the same time, the students are also losing their self-esteem, thereby, undermining critical faculty of their brain.

The Headmaster also commented that government schools are becoming unpopular owing to insincerity on the part of the teachers.

A tuition teacher who chose not to disclose his identity  shared to this IFP reporter that tuition classes is a big business not only for private school teachers but for government school teachers as well.

They have networks with the question setters of the Board and Council for suggestions, he added.

The teacher further revealed that the payments for the tuition fees are taken full amount in advance as a mechanism not to forfeit tuition fee by the students.

A woman selling petrol on the roadside of one coaching center said that she manage to sell over 200 litres of petrol to parents who are used to driving their wards to the tuition centres to and fro. A traffic police on duty in the Imphal city, the tuition rush hour in the morning and evening time create traffic jams.

A guardian also shared that has to take out time to escort his daughter to two tuition centers in the morning and again two batches in the evening.
