IMPHAL, September 20: The United Committee, Manipur, UCM this morning offered “tarpan” to the souls of the martyrs of the Great June Uprising at the Martyrs Memorial Complex at Kekrupat.
The offering of tarpan will continue for 15 days.
Today’s function was attended by members of several organizations including All Manipur United Club Organisation, Ethno Heritage Council and family members of those who died in the June 18 Uprising.
The function was also participated by people from different communities including those from the hills. People also planted “Kekru” saplings in the surrounding areas of the memorial complex as part of the tarpan offering.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the function, UCM VP, Chandramani Khumancha said the UCM which was formed on the issue of territorial integrity of the state strongly condemns the present border fencing issue along the Indo-Myanmar border.
Demanding an immediate stop of the fencing, he said UCM has already organized seminars and technical meetings on the border issue. Chandramani said that UCM will form a co-ordinating body with other like-minded bodies and launch a mass movement with the support of the general public demanding for a white paper on the issue.
