IMPHAL, September 30 (NNN): The All Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Assam, Manipur and Nagaland (AZSU, AMN) and Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) has served an ultimatum to the state government of Manipur to shift the Jiribam police station from Tatbung village of Taosem subdivision, Tamenglong district. They also demanded that the boundary gate be installed at Phaitol village under Taosem subdivision so that further confusion over district boundary does not occur again in future.
In their joint memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister and submitted on September 26, AZSU and ZSUM said the state government should materialise their demands within 20 days from the date of submission of the memorandum.
“We have the honour to point out that so many unjust activities have incurred on Tamenglong district ever since the demand to upgrade Jiribam subdivision of Imphal East district to a full-fledged revenue district. Therefore, we would like to state the following points before your good-self for kind consideration and prompt action,” the joint representation of AZSU and ZSUM said.
According to the Zeliangrong students organisations, the Jiribam police station located erstwhile at Gularthon had moved 3 km into Tamenglong district and functioning at Tatbung village,Taosem sub-division since last year 2012.
AZSU and ZSUM expressed that maintaining the correct district boundary and efficient dealing of the issue will prevent pandemonium among different communities.
“The two Zeliangrong students’ organisations also would like to remind your good-self that on several occasions different Zeliangrong organisations have placed this district boundary issue before your good office and in public domain but no visible action has been initiated from your end,” the memorandum stated.
“In order to clear the air of confusion and problem, we demand that your good office will install a Tamenglong district boundary gate and a Tamenglong district police station at Phaitol village under Taosem sub-division, Tamenglong district adjacent to Gularthon Leikai in Jiribam, Imphal East district,” it further stated.
“We, therefore place our earnest appeal before you to materialize these demands mentioned in the representation within 20 days’ time or else we have no other option but to initiate a stern form of democratic agitation in collaboration with different frontal organisations and communities,” the joint memorandum said.
