7th Regional Saras Fair begins at Hapta Kangjeibung

IMPHAL, October 24:  The 7th Regional Saras Fair, 2013 began today at Hapta Kangjeibung, Konung Mamang. The 14-day fair is being organized by the state Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and features 200 stalls belonging to participants from the state and outside.  

Speaking during the inauguration of the fair, RD and PR minister, Francis Ngajokpa said women from both hills and valley of Manipur are better than their counterparts in proper maintenance of their families.

He further said that women of the state are more talented than men in various fields, especially in handcraft and handloom whose products are in great demand in other states.

The individuals who are engaged in producing handcraft and handloom products have room for improvement quality and quantity wise as well in design creation to meet the growing demands from other states, he said.

He continued that as compared to last year the fair has improved and expressed hope the positive trend will continue in this direction in the future too.

Speaking to IFP reporter, Khagokpam Bina a member of Khagokpam Food Self Help Group of Khurai Kongpal Thongkhom informed that the enterprise produces pickles of different varieties and puffed rice.

She continued that their pickles brands are being supplied to various parts of Imphal districts and the puffed rice are attracting orders for marriage ceremonies.

The enterprise was established around two years back for the socio economic development and creation of jobs for the unemployed people in the locality without asking for incentives from the government, she added.

She asserted that the establishment of such enterprises has benefitted a lot of individuals with the orders increasing in numbers everyday.
