IMPHAL, October 28: Reacting against the October 10 order that re-designated 13 Sub Divisional Officers (SDO) of six districts as Block Development Officers (BDO) of identified CD/TD Blocks with full responsibility of planning, implementing and monitoring of the rural development schemes and programs, members of the Panchayati Raj Institute met today at the Kongpal Thongkhong community hall.
The members passed a resolution during the meeting stating that appointing the SDOs as BDOs is unacceptable and instead dedicated officers should be appointed as BDOs.
The members also threatened that all developmental programs undertaken under them will be ceased from today until the demands are fulfilled.
Speaking at the meeting vice president, Manipur State Panchayat Parishad, Abdul Latif said that the body will submit a memorandum to the concern officials of the state soon and also urge the centre to act against the state government’s action which amounts to violation of rights of the rural people.
He continued that unless the government fulfil their demands, the PRI will initiate agitations and stay out of the upcoming MP election or boycott the election altogether.
He further said that appointing SDO officers as BDO is quite risky, because the SDOs have their own tight schedules and cannot do justice to additional work load of being a BDO.
