Another instance of PDS items smuggling unearthed

JIRIBAM, October 5: A few days after a team of Moreh Police Commandos recovered 20 bags of PDS rice from four Myanmarese nationals, a team of Jiri Police led by Jiribam Foreigner Check Post OC Y Muhindro Singh, acting on a tip off, seized 150 bags of FCI rice from a Tata DI and 407 mini truck and arrested three persons while they were trying to smuggle the rice bags into Silchar, Assam yesterday evening.

Reports said based on a specific information received that there will be an attempt to smuggle FCI rice into Silchar, the team was keeping a tight vigil until a Tata DI and 407 mini truck were spotted coming loaded with the rice bags.

When checked, it was found that the FCI rice which was brought was meant to be sold in Silchar.

The Tata DI was being driven by one Md Nizam Uddin (36), of (L) Md Muffijuddin of Islambad, Jiribam while the 407 mini truck was driven by Md Inul Ali Laskar (28), son of Md Anwar Ali Laskar of Meherpur, Silchar. The reports further informed that the Tata DI truck was loaded with 45 bags while the 407 mini truck had 105 rice bags.

On further investigation, it came to light that the recovered rice was amongst the 194 bags of FCI rice which was supposed to be transported up to FCI Sangaiprou Godown, Imphal in a truck bearing registration no MN-01 6278 after loading from FCI Godown Jiribam on October 1.

Police sources said the rice was recovered at a time when the driver of the truck, Rameshore of Yairipok was trying to load the rice illegally to  two vehicles at Dibong Khunou meant for selling in Silchar.

The vehicles along with the three drivers have been seized by the police and a case has been registered in connection with the case, the sources added.
