Assault charge against AR

IMPHAL, October 20: The All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur has today alleged that three civilians were arrested by the 10th Assam Riffle during different occasions and later handed over to the Patsoi police.

Addressing media persons at the Manipur Press Club, spokesperson Majabung Gangmei said all three civilians were arrested from three different locations on October 16 and 17.

All three were later handed over to the Patsoi Police on October 19 by the AR, he claimed before appealing to the concerned authorities to release the three at the earliest.

He alleged that on October 16 night, Dikoilung Dangmei son of (L) Kagadai Dangmei of Thanagong villages was arrested; Katuangai Kamei son of Nangailung Kamei of Thanagong village and Muidaimei Pamei son of Jianthaongampou Pamei of Namkaolong village both under Khoupum village were arrested the next day on October 17.

Elaborating further, he said that Dikoilung is a simple carpenter who had come to Noney about 2 months back to work under one Gangmeilan Gangmei.

Katuangai looks after a farm owned by one Apan of Lukhambi village while Muidaimei Pamei works at a tea hotel, he continued.

The three were arrested by the 10th Assam Rifles on charges of being underground activities and have been physically tortured and harassed, he alleged.

Further addressing the press meet, he said the people of the hills have suffered a lot in the hands of the security forces; and if such activities continue, then the day is not far when the public will act against the concern security forces, he warned.

Today’s conference was also attended by representatives of the Zeliangrong Students Union Manipur (ZSUM), Zeliangrong Student’s Union Khoupam Area (ZSUKA), Naga Woman Union Manipur (NWUM), Life Watch Manipur and All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM).
