Charge hearing of Khoupum rape case slated on October 23

IMPHAL, October 10: The charge hearing in the case of ZUF deserters allegedly raping four school girls of Don Bosco Taosemjang on October 5 will be conducted on October 23 at the District and Session Court, Manipur West.

The alleged incident had occurred on October 5 around 4pm after the two deserted ZUF cadres Latjangai Malangmei of Noney and Dibonpou Kamei of Ramgaijang, Assam allegedly raped the four school going girl students, in Khoupum area at the Irrigation and Flood Control Department (IFCD) cum choukidar quarters, at Taosemjang in Khoupum village after forcibly abducting the four at gun point.

The case has been taken up in the court under case number 1 of 2013 under FIR Number 6(10)2012 of Khoupum Police Station under section 363/367/34 Indian Penal Code 259(I-C) Arms Act.

The case had not been able to proceed to the court due to the non-clearance of the age of the alleged accused who was believed to be under-age and supposed to be handed over to the Juvenile Justice Board.

However, after a medical board headed by the head of Forensic Medicine, RIMS submitted his age report stating that the accused is between the age of 18 and 20 and not a minor anymore, the Court had fixed the date for Charge hearing in the alleged rape case.

Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that one of the accused, Dibonpou Kamei had committed suicide the same day while Latjangai Malangmei of Noney was arrested the next day from Chiningkhol Village of Bishnupur district.
