IMPHAL, October 31: In a shocking incident, a 12-year old physically challenged girl was allegedly raped by a 28-year old man after dragging her behind a bush at Panjakhong in Thoubal district at around 6.10 pm yesterday.
According to reports, the crime happened when the girl and her younger sister were on their way to buy household stuff from a grocery shop in the neighborhood. The victim and the accused were brought to RIMS today and tests were conducted at the forensic department to determine whether the charge was true.
According to a family member, the accused identified as Md Ajijur, son of Md Ahmad Ali, took advantage of the seclusion when the victim who is also blind in her left eye was alone as the younger sister had gone to another shop. He added that at that time the man then dragged the girl behind a thick bush and raped the 12-year old girl.
Her younger sister found her missing when she returned to the grocery shop and began crying out her name in order to find her. The alleged rapist ran towards the paddy field leaving the victim on hearing the sister approaching. Thereafter, the younger sister narrated the ordeal to their mother. A large number of local residents and members of local clubs assembled in the evening and arrested the accused from his current residence at Yairipok Mayai Keithel at around 8 pm. The accused who is originally from Phabokchao has been later handed over to Yairipok Police Station, he informed.
