Explosion near City Police station – a mockery of state`s security arrangement ?

IMPHAL, October 18: A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded during the wee hours today at Mahatma Gandhi Avenue around 100 metres away from City Police, Imphal.

Even though no casualty was reported due to the explosion, window panes, show box glasses of shops were shattered by the intensity of the explosion.

Soon after the blast, a team of City Police rushed at the explosion site followed by bomb experts, forensic team and conducted a thorough search of the area.

The police team could not recover any splinters of the IED except for some worn out wires.

The device was triggered using a remote device, said experts.

Police suggested that non-locals in the area could have been the target of the explosion as the place is usually crowded by non-locals who conversed there for breakfast.

Meanwhile, Commando DSP (Ops) Dr S Ibomcha, DSP commando, KT Singh and DSP Imphal West, Modhunimai, also visited the blast site.

It may be recalled that another powerful blast on September 13 had killed nine non-locals and injured several others.
