IMPHAL, October 13: The Governor of the Manipur Dr Ashwani Kumar, who is also the Chairperson of Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA) today inaugurated the Leima Namul Khambi, a dance-drama at JNMDA today.
Addressing the inaugural function, Governor Dr Ashwani Kumar lauded the entire organizing team which conceived the idea behind the performance.
The first thing that comes to mind when Manipur is mentioned is its dance, however from today, drama will also be etched in my mind, the Governor said.
Further sharing his thoughts, he said he has little knowledge of the art forms of dance and drama and further expressed his happiness that he will be witnessing such forms.
Vice-chairperson of JNMDA, Prof N Tombi said that such functions which showcase the rich traditions of Manipuri dance and drama is a rare occasion.
The Manipuri culture is passing through a critical period today, he said while commenting that the present generation has failed to follow in the footsteps of the past Gurus and artistes of Manipuri dance forms and drama who have passed on such a great tradition to them.
He further said the present generation need to preserve and promote the great traditions handed over to them.
