IMPHAL, October 11: Unidentified persons lobbed a hand grenade which exploded near the residential quarter of John Raleng, Chairman of the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council located inside the eastern side of the autonomous district council quarter complex at Sangakpham Paomei colony under Heigang Police Station Imphal East District today at around 3:50 pm.
Glass window panes and some wall of the quarters were damaged in the blast; however there were no reports of any human casualty.
According to the police, the grenade exploded inside the eastern side of the ADC quarter complex Sangakpham Paomei colony in front of the newly constructed quarter of ADC Ukhrul Chairmen John Raleng of Teinem Village Ukhrul District at around 3.50 pm.
Soon after the blast, a large number of police personnel led by Inspector Raikumar, Officer in Charge Heigang police station rushed to the blast site and thoroughly checked the area.
According to a reliable source, the bomb attack might have been carried out by NSCN-IM cadres regarding a monetary demand served to the chairman some few days back.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) has strongly condemned the attack and life attempt on chairman ADC ukhrul by unidentified miscreants today at Shangakpham Imphal at around 3:30 pm by exploding a bomb inside the building of the chairman’s residence.
A statement of TKLI appealed to the perpetrators to openly come out and clarify on the grievous crime and amend themselves so that peaceful co-existence and all-embracing atmosphere prevail.
