IMPHAL, October 2: Houses constructed on both sides of the National Highway 2 on government Khasland at Lilong Ushoipokpi were today dismantled using a JCB.

The action of the government is preceded by a state cabinet decision and a subsequent order of the Thoubal DC in June on the matter.

The government has also set deadlines for all owners of such structures from Lillong to Pallel along the highway to dismantle buildings on their own.

The government had set September 30 as deadline for owners of such construction from Lilong to Tangjeng; and September 29 for Wangjing to Haikha.

Meanwhile, angered by the act of dismantling the structures, people broke the bulbs on the front and back side of one of the JCBs.

Police also fired some rounds to control the people.

However, the mob was controlled after the arrival of minister Md Nasir who arrived at the scene. He later took about 5/6 protesting individuals to meet the CM.

Later, Thoubal DC, T Ranjit and SP Thoubal AK Jhaljit also visited the site.
