IMPHAL, October 11: The 89th birth anniversary of RK Maipaksana, an eminent person of the state was observed today at Lamyanba Shanglen.
RK Maipaksana, born on October 11, 1924, was the editor of the daily Prajatantra.
Former vice chancellor MU, Prof Hijam Tombi Singh as chief guest addressed the observation on the topic “Protection of Human Environment in Manipur”.
He said the advancement of modern science and technology, rapid increase of industrialization and explosive human population have all caused deforestation thereby increasing soil erosion. He further stated that the state has very rich natural resources with 75% of its total area under forest cover and occupied by wetlands including Loktak lake.
