Janta Dal (U) calls for befitting punishment in drug smuggling cases

    IMPHAL, October 11: The Janta Dal (United) state unit president M Tombi today demanded befitting punishment of all those involved in the various case of illegal drug smuggling cases of the state.

    Addressing a press conference at the party’s office at Babupara today, he further alleged that till date the government has failed to give any befitting punishment to any of the persons involved in illegal drug smuggling/trafficking cases, though many with influential backgrounds and families including army officers and children o former state minister have been allegedly involved in such cases.

    High profile individuals have both the muscle and money to escape from the cases, M Tombi continued.

    The drug issue is one of the major issues confronting the state today and many youths have already fallen prey and got addicted which can be related to the ever increasing crime rate in the state today.

    He further appealed to the state to take action at the earliest and demanded capital punishment to persons involved in the drug cases in order to save the future generation.

    The state should take proper action to check the crimes against woman and child, he said.
