IMPHAL, October 21: Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra, the former judge of Allahabad High Court, was sworn in as a judge of the High Court of Manipur at a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan.
The swearing-in-ceremony was conducted by Governor of Manipur Ashwani Kumar.
During the function, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh; Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam; Chief Justice in-charge of Manipur High Court, Justice N Kotiswar, MLAs; Ministers; and other officials attended.
Speaking to media persons after the swearing-in-ceremony, Justice Laxmi Kanta Mohapatra said that he will try to ensure speedy justice in the state. He added that there are many social related issues which can be solved without approaching the court and if possible should be settled outside.
He expressed his happiness on becoming one of the judges of High Court of Manipur, and added that he will try to dispose all the pending cases in different courts of the state.
From NNN: On the sidelines of the function, Chief Minister O Ibobi while replying to a media query said the state government is very serious about the boundary issue along the Indo-Myanmar border and informed that an all political party team led by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam will be visiting Moreh in Chandel district tomorrow to make an assessment of the current status of the border fencing.
He assured that if the situation demands, the all party team will also visit New Delhi to impress upon both the Prime Minister and Home Minister to take appropriate steps to protect the land falling within Manipur.
On the ‘visa on arrival’ required on free movement between the people of Manipur and Myanmar’s Mandalay, Ibobi said he has already urged the concerned authorities in New Delhi to set up two visa offices in the state-one at Imphal Tulihal Airport and another at commercial hub of Moreh.
“I’m expecting these visa offices soon,” he said.
He also assured a passport office in Imphal to redress the hurdles encountered by the public while seeking it in Guwahati.
