IMPHAL, October 13: The Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai (KISG) and Saikul Area Naga People’s Organisation (SANPO) have decided to go ahead with its proposed 48-hour bandh from midnight tomorrow.

The announcement was made by Thangkam Lupheng, president KISG, while speaking to media persons during a press meet held today at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

He divulged that the two apex bodies had apprised the authority concerned several times regarding their demands but since there has been no positive response from the authority, they had to go ahead with its course of agitation.

The president further disclosed that they were invited by the Deputy Chief Minister yesterday morning but the representatives of KISG and SANPO were left high and dry as the Deputy CM was said to be out of station.

While strongly condemning that act, he appealed the public to co-operate with the organisations and bear with them considering the plight.

It asserted that the Government will be responsible for any untoward incident arising out of the agitation.

It has been informed that all educational institutions, press and religious activities will be exempted during the bandh.

It may be recalled that the KISG and SANPO called the 48-hour bandh with several demands including the cancellation of Home Department notification (14 June, 2011) withdrawal of all under Saikul sub-division included in the police stations of Imphal East district and Thoubal district.

It also demanded to include Maphou Dam Police station and Purum Likli Police station (under construction) name under the administrative jurisdiction of Senapati district police at the same time opening police stations/outposts in all strategic areas, if need, under Senapati district police.

Moreover, it urged the authority not to disturb the existing original districts and Sub-divisional boundaries in the name of security and law and order.  They also demanded for the inclusion of Maphou Dam police station and Purum Likli police station (under construction) under the administrative jurisdiction of Senapati district police.
