`Kungyee` selected for World Premiere at Australia`s Aperture Festival

    IMPHAL, October 4 (NNN): `Kungyee`, a documentary film produced by Pamreiso Shimray and directed by Chaoba Thiyam, has been selected for the World Premiere at Aperture Festival at Melbourne, Australia which is slated for November 22 to 23.

    In an official selection of films, the organisers of Asia Pacific International Ethnographic Documentary Festival 2013 announced the selection of `Kungyee` among 13 films for Experiential Ethnographic Films Program and 17 films for Cinematic Program.

    The film will be screened along with other selected documentaries in the Yasuko Hiraoka Myer room, Sidney Myer Asia Centre, The University of Melbourne.

    Kungyee is a debut film of a journalist Pamreiso Shimray and is set in Ningthi village under Kamjong Sub-division, Ukhrul district in Manipur. The film documents the dying rituals of rain invocation among the Tangkhul Nagas.

    The film, produced with the support of Tribal Research Institute Manipur, has also been screened at “A film Fest on Tangkhul Culture” in Ukhrul 2012 and Shillong 2013.

    The film was produced this year with Chaoba Thiyam and Saikhom Ratan as cinematographers, Sunil Loitongbam as sound recordist and is edited and directed by Chaoba Thiyam.
