IMPHAL, Oct 13: An emergency meeting of the MB College Teachers’ Association, Palace Compound, Imphal was held on October 13, 2013, at the chamber of the Principal of the College.
According to a statement of the college, the members present unanimously and strongly condemned the physical assault of Dr Hanjabam Shukhdeba Sharma, Assistant Professor of Social Work, IGNTU-RCM, Imphal by Prof Moiranthem Mani, Director, UGC-Academic Staff College, Manipur University, Canchipur on October 10, 2013 at UGC-ASC, Manipur University, Canchipur during the orientation course class.
It said, “As a responsible teacher and respecting his position as a Director, Prof Mani should have intervened in a responsible manner. His violent action is against the ethical norms set by the University Grants Commission”.
The meeting had also resolved that such an incident can happen to any other teacher, and thus the concerned authority must take every precaution to prevent the occurrence of similar incident in the future; that an appeal be sent to the Vice Chancellor, Manipur University, Canchipur to judiciously investigate the matter and justice be delivered to Dr Hanjabam Shukhdeba, it said.
The M.B. College Teachers’ Association extends its unfailing support and solidarity to Dr. Hanjabam Shukhdeba, it concluded.
