Mera Hou Chongba observation

IMPHAL, October 18: Marking the beginning of third day of Mera Hou Chongba (Mera 15 ni Panba), a procession headed by titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, was taken out till Kangla fort, wherein rituals in connection with the celebration was performed by priest and priestess.

The colourful traditional procession participated by different communities concluded at the Royal Palace.

Later, a public function was also organised at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen wherein in various community leaders, intellectuals etc converged.

An inter communities gift exchange programme was also organised at the Shanglen followed by Thabal Chongba at 7 pm.

Meanwhile, the Meitei Lai Thougal Kanglup organised the Mera Mera Hou Chongba at Moreh, sub division of Chandel district at 2:00 pm today.

The function was organised under the theme “We are in same blood line”, “No division on religious line”, “Discard communalism”, “let us live together” etc.

Lairenlapam Maipak Singh of Angom clan, T S Sanasam of Mangang clan, Salam Inao of Luwang clan, Laisram Kunjo of Khuman clan, Thokchom Robin Meetei of Moirang clan, Khuraijam Suresh of Kha-nganba clan and Sarangthem Ibohal Singh of Salang Leisangthem representing the seven clans of Meitei attended the function.

The representatives of the seven Meitei clan exchanged presentation with hill village chiefs, Letkam Khongchai of Shongpijang village, Kt Kothil Maring of Langkhong Ching vellage, Nagangbo Tapon of Tamenglong, Pr Sonpu Chothe of Khongkhang village, U Chongam Kom of Moreh, Ch Sabastine Moyon and Angom Amu of Kwatha village.

Later on, maibi jaoi and oriental percussion were presented, followed by a lecture on Mera Hou Chongba by the National Awardee, Chana Lukhoi.

The Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup also presented various items of vegetable and other during the function.
