New body formed, demands quick action in alleged rape case

IMPHAL, October 26: The JAC formed in connection with the alleged Tangkham rape case along with several differently abled persons and parents guardians today called a press meet at the Manipur Press Club announcing the formation of a the Disability Rights Initiative, Manipur for the differently abled individuals.

Speaking at the meet, Ph kripa said that the main objective of the newly formed body is to pressurise the concern authorities take quick and proper action against the rape case and to give befitting punishment to the accused in alleged rape case of a differently abled person on October 11.

He said, the body would intensify their agitation in demand of justice for the rape victims in the state who are differently abled.

He further said that Disability Right Initiative Manipur is formed by several organisations of the differently abled persons.

Speaking to the media person, the mother of the alleged victim of the Tangkham rape case said the incident occered on October 11, when she was not at home.

However, a medical test at the RIMS forensic had confirmed rape on her differently abled daughter, she said.

She said her daughter had even spoke before the local public that she was raped by one Laishram Joykumar, a relative staying in the locality for the past 20 years, but who originally hails from Khundrakpam Awang Leikai.

She further demanded befitting capital punishment to the alleged accused who had committed the heinous crime.

Speaking to the Media Person at the Press Member of the JAC committed against the Tangkham Rape case K Samananda said that after the rape case came to light on October 13, the local had passed a resolution the next day not to allow the accused to stay in the locality and further placed a complaint to the concerned Lamlai Police Station the same day.

Following the complaint, the accused had surrendered himself and is now presently in the Sajiwa Central Jail under judicial custody remand till 2 November, he said

As till today the concerned police have not submitted a charge sheet and when enquired, the police reply that they are waiting for the forensic report of rape victim, he said.
