Suspected millitants create tension at Motbung, five injured

IMPHAL, October 14: Unknown miscreants suspected to be cadres of an unidentified Kuki UG group, tension erupted along National Highway 2 at Motbung village this afternoon at around 1 pm leading to a blockade of the Highway by an angry mob which compelled vehicles plying along the highway to be stranded for at least 3/4 hrs.

The miscreants identifying themselves to be cadres of a militant outfit in an inebriated condition attacked womenfolk, resulting in several women being injured.

The unwanted incident occurred when the miscreants who were intoxicated had a run in with a group of women at Meetei Leikai at Motbung village shouting, “Come forward Meira Paibis”, according to an eye witnesses.

“Tension ran out of control when the unknown youth turned violent against the womenfolk thereby seriously injuring some of them”, the eye witnesses told the media persons while adding that the miscreants shouted at the women folk that they were cadres of one Kuki UG group without disclosing the name.

The culprits ran away from the incident site when the women retaliated by alerting the general public and blocking the national highway at Motbung bazar to lodge their protest against the use of violence towards women and seriously injuring some of them without any mercy.

The agitating women also demanded the arrest of the culprits and justice for the injured immediately.

The Addl SP Kangpokpi along with a team of Sapormeina police and 43 AR Motbung post rushed to the spot and controlled the situation.

An agreement was bought with representatives of the agitating women folks with the intervention of Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, TSA-SH and Motbung Village Authority and later, the road block was cleared for traffic around 4:30 pm.

The police identified the injured persons as Tembi (45) of Thoubal, Sobha Mayanglangban (44) of Kakching but presently residing at Motbung, Sandhya Rai (17), Ibecha(40) and Nengkhohoi (40) of Motbung respectively.

Tembi sustained a head injury when the unidentified person(s) pelted stone to the vehicle she was traveling in, while Sobha sustained serious injury on his forehead after the unknown miscreants attacked.

Sandhya sustained an injury on her left arm while Ibecha and Nengkhohoi sustained various injuries.

Sobha and Sandhya were referred to Shija Hospital while Ibecha and Nengkhohoi were discharged after being provided first aid at PHC Motbung.

In the meantime, Tembi has been taken to Imphal by her family members after being administered first aid at PHC Motbung.
