Bandh affects normal life

IMPHAL, November 14: The 24-hour bandh imposed by the JAC against the brutal killing of H Manisana affected normal life in the state.

The bandh commenced from 5am today and will conclude at 5am tomorrow.

The consequences of the bandh were largedly noticed in Imphal area where all the interstate bus service and other passenger service vehicles remained off the roads. All business establishments including the three sheds of Ima Keithel remained closed.

While the percentage of the employee attendance in the government offices was reportedly low in percentage, all educational institutes in areas of the valley districts remained close.

Except for some private vehicles on emergency and ceremonial services, a very few were seen plying in the roads of the state capital. However, traffic started to increase by late afternoon.

Large numbers of police personnel were deployed in various areas to prevent untoward incidents from happening during the 24-hour bandh.

Meanwhile, protesting the murder of Haobisam Manisana, the first Adakshya of Bishnupur district and vice president of Manipur People Party, the people of Thanga today blocked the road at Thanga Chinglak and a sit in protest was also held at Bishnupur Bazaar.

The roadside timbers which are planted at the both side of the Bridge of Thang Chinglak were felled down by the protestors and make the timber fire by pouring petrol, in addition to it, GI pipes, timbers and blocking stones were also deposited on the bridge and road thereby making a total blockade of the road. The protestors also shouted to punish the killers and provide justice at the soonest. The protestors further demanded to establish the clue behind the murder.

In the mean time, the Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Bishnupur and the JAC recently formed against the murder organized a sit in protest at Bishnupur Bazaar.

The placards which read as – Do murders of innocent people provide solution – Punish the murder of Manisana – Human beings are not animal – Have the killers satisfied with the murder – etc were displayed during the sit in protest.

The impact of the banch was largely seen at the district head quarter of Bishnupur and Thanga area for the district police has taken precautionary measures and kept the district under control.
