IMPHAL, November 20: Regarding the FIR registered against the president of the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) has strongly condemned the state government.
The FIR was registered against ATSUM president, Thangzamuan Tombing at Tamenglong police station on Wednesday.
External Affairs secretary of ATSUM (T), Thangjalun Baite said that ATSUM is fighting for the cause of tribal people which have been deprived by the government since the past many years.
Under the code name ROTO, ATSUM (T) has carried out an agitation in the hills district of the state for the second time as the government has failed to fulfill its demands.
ATSUM has been halting all the national projects in the hills districts of the state since the last few days and the agitation had entered its ninth day, he said.
Citing that the student body has been carrying out its agitation in a democratic manner and not a single violent act has been carried out, he asked why the police have registered an FIR against the president of the student body.
He further demanded a concrete reason from the government on why the FIR was registered.
The government should not test the patience of the students’ body, he said.
